Hi Gecko lovers I want to start breeding crested geckos as a hobby and the myrtle beach reptile show was coming up soon and I want to know if I should get my crested geckos adult age or a younger age to have more expierience when they are young.
Thanks Caitlin a.k.a Crestedgecko's4lyf

If your main goal is breeding, then you may want to start with adults. I would keep them separately for awhile to be sure they are eating well before you do anything. If you want the geckos more for pets and don't mind waiting longer to breed then you could start with juvies. They are pretty darn cute and you'll get more experience with them, but most younger geckos are unsexed so you don't know what you're going to get, plus it could take 2+ years for them to mature. Care is basically the same for all ages; small babies tend to eat more crickets but the sooner you get them switched to CGD the better. Whichever you choose (you could do both), make sure they are healthy, and a vet check is always a good idea for any new gecko, especially for potential breeders.

You can get juvies near adult size, you can take your time and have them as normal pets for a couple months before you feel you're ready to breed them.

I agree with Amanda and Caleb. You'll get better at crested keeping if you get juvies. Then you will be an expert by the time they are ready for breeding. Not sure how much a vet check up would be but you can call and ask your local herp vet

Vet checkup prices vary a lot by vet. My vet is really reasonable; I think she charges $50-75 for a basic check up, but I don't remember exactly how much. If you know anyone who keeps herps in your area, I would ask them for recommendations on where they take their pets.
