This is Quasimodo, a 3 year old male Mack Snow I rescued along with another gecko (Persephone, 3 years old, female Blizzard) around Thanksgiving.
Quasi is suffering from MBD but is slowly coming around. After being with me for a little over a month he has gained weight (4 grams..not a lot but it's an improvement!) and can now hold himself up and hunt on his own (as long as the prey is disabled or slow moving).
According to the lady who surrendered them to me, Quasi and Persephone were purchased at the same time from the same breeder. It's strange because Persephone is perfectly healthy!
The geckos were originally purchased for the family's son, but inevitably their care fell to his mother. From what she told me she was doing the best she could for them but they were not receiving optimal care.
I'm not sure when Quasi stopped eating while in their care, but upon close inspection after I received them I discovered two large abscesses in the roof of his mouth. After these were drained he began eating once again.
Anyway, here are some pictures. Quasi is slowly improving and I hope he continues to do so!
The day I brought him home:
Today:
He's got a bad leg that I'm pretty worried about...
He can hold himself up now but his poor legs are all over the place. If he makes a full recovery he will never be the same, I'm afraid.
And here's the other gecko I rescued with him. Persephone is a chubby, feisty, mean little thing but I love her none the less.
