Hello, I'm new to the Gecko world but have had bearded dragons and currently have a baby BD. Meet Rocky our new Leo and his new home. The kids wanted another reptile so in my searches I found a leo on CL needing a new home. It was cared for by a mother and her two children who did seem to care for him, but fed it only a diet of ungutloaded/undusted crickets.

So I got him a new tank, disinfected everything he came with (1:1 Vinegar/Water) and set him up a new home (came with a 20g tank, but I had this spare 30g w/stand so I cleaned and disinfected this as well and got some tile cut). I've attached a pic. He has a UTH on the way from Amazon, but I've only had him for 3 days now.

So my question is, does he have MBD? Everytime he takes a step, he shakes like crazy. It defintely makes me sad as it looks painful. Been reading on here so I've put a small cap of ReptiCal w/D3 (Didn't have any without) next to his feeding dish.

As far as I know, he is over 4+ years old. I'm unsure on his actual age but could trace to at least 4 years. (If he's a he) His poop looks normal, he's hunting and eating crickets (that he came with that I'm dusting) and has eaten a bunch of my dubia (since the Baby BD can only eat very small nymphs, Rocky gets the bigger ones)

I'm a little unsure on MBD because he's walking on his feet fine, the other posts I've read they have deformed joints/walk not on their feet. However, the shaking is pretty bad and is on every step. Previous owner states they don't recall this happening. Any thoughts?

The picture is a bit far away, but from what I can see, he looks well-formed and is standing all right.

Is it just his feet that are trembling? I've seen my geckos do that when they are feeling uncertain about walking on a substrate (or my arms, lol). If it's full body shakes, he might have some other medical issue going on. A video would be good, if you have the means to get and post one. And there's always the option of consulting with a vet.

Just a note on the supplements, it's probably fine to dust every feeding in the short term to help him catch up on nutrients, but assuming he doesn't have MBD, using them every feeding might be too much in the long run. The only brand I know of that's designed for use every feeding is Repashy Calcium Plus. Most other ones are a few times a week.

Here is the little guy passed out. He seems to be doing much better and I rarely see him shaking anymore. He's really happy about the UTH heater, however temps on the ground are upper 90s with the heat gun so I'll get a lamp dimmer and bump it down a notch to high 80's.

I've completely taken his crickets out of his diet and moved him to dubia only. Also I've cut back on his daily dusting and he now gets his dubia dusted every other day with calcium or vitamins.

I'm really not sure how much he should be eating. He seems to eat 3 medium sized dubia and a 4th if I put it in his face. He wont chase them like crickets either, they need to be upside down and squirming.

What are the little black spots on him?

That's good he's doing better.

For feeding, so you may need to cut him down a bit so he doesn't become overweight. He already looks to be a healthy weight, and eating 3-4 dubia every day could be too much. Most adults, you can feed 2-3 times a week rather than every day.

He could have some natural spots, looking at the picture. It does look like he has some dry skin going on, so make sure he has a damp humid hide at all times to use.
