OK, Pretty long story but its important to hear it all, because I need ER help. OK My brother thought he would like to get into geckos so I traded him some pairs of different morphs for some Boa cages to sell. There was a total of 9. I told him that if he didn't want them any more to never sell them but to return them to me. These were 6-9 months olds. At any rate he has snakes and has been involved in snakes for about 8 years. So I figured he knew most normal stuff but I still told him how to care for them ect. I even told him that they didn't weigh enough to be bred!!!!! Well after about a month and a half he called and said he had eggs! I was mad and hurt. Well he couldn't even handle incubation correctly so he lost the eggs and the geckos tails were getting awful skinny by the third month. I asked him for them back because not only were they becoming skinny he complained about crickets smelling and worms getting out. When I went there one day he had them in sterilite containers with a heater blowing on them. I explained that wasn't correct and they need to be able to get out of the heat and also i twas possible they weren't getting enough heat. Again I offered to trade for them back. It was still NO! Well about a week ago I walked into a Pet store where I know the owner and the owners asks me what kind of geckos did he get from me? I explained that I never sold him any geckos and he said your brother did. At that point I told him he was crazy for buying those Geckos that they were terrribly skinny and had no more fat reserve left if they weren't eating. And I told him I wanted to take them home and see if I could get them better but did tell him the chance was very slim! So I went over to the cages and removed the geckos. Now I have them and I am trying to feed them slurry and bugs are in their tubs with calcium ect but I haven't seen any eat nor are any worms or crickets gone. I need to know how much and how often to feed them the slurry? I have wormed them and I plan to take in another stool sample next week if they survive. So Any tips or advice would be super. I also have a question about crypto. If my brother didn't have other geckos except mine could any of them gotten it from any other reptile? But a pair of them came from another breeder just a few months before I traded him and they have very runny stools when they were with my brother. Oh and by the way my brother is 50 yrs old not a youngster so its not like he lives with me and I could of kept a good eye on the geckos! But believe me I have learned an important lesson here. All of this is very painful for me so any advice or reassurance would be wonderful!!! I feel quilty I didn't just take them back when I noticed their first problem. Thanks all! Deb

WOW!!! This is horrible! I hope you can rehabilitate them. As long as they are kept with the proper heat gradient (90-92 warm side and room temp. cool side) and on paper towel substarate, you can slurry-feed them about 1 ml. 1-2 times a day. Once they produce a stool, get it in to the vest ASAP to rule out any parasitic infection.

Good luck!

Tough situation... I can't believe your own brother would do that to you. It's not like you'll never see him again and won't ask after the geckos... poor things- I hope you can bring them back and they don't have something serious. (You're quarantining them from your other geckos, right?)

Some Good News!

Thanks everyone for your help and reasurrance in this matter, It really lifted my spirits. My brother has always been a jerk so now after all this I will never trust him again But I do have Good News! :main_yes: All of the geckos have eaten a few worms and I found stool in each tub right in front of the food dish! I am adding a few crickets tonight before I leave for Mass Trucking with my husband. I will also be picking up some geckos from my great friend I met on here who has to move so I will care for them for him. As for my skinny ones, I figure giving them alittle slurry right before I leave tonight and then when I get back tomorrow evening should be OK. And I will put several crickets in the tub a few hours before I leave and then take them out should they refuse them. Plus there will be a dish of mealworms and a cap of calcium and fresh water! I am very excited they have eaten alittle. I know it will be a long road but I have some hope now. Any other tips are always welcome. I know how to care for all animals and reptiles but when it comes to my own who I found in such terrible condition after placing them in what I thought would be an OK home, well I just can't think well. I get to upset to be logical. I hate to see any creature suffer and as you can see by my business name "Sacred Creatures" All creatures are sacred to me and my family. Thanks MARCIA, for your help on the slurry for my babies. I know it is such a hard time for you right now after what you went thru. :( I send my love and caring your way to help your sweet babies and you to get thru this as good as possible. Bless you! :D Hang in there! Deb
