Hello everyone! My name is Holly and was referred here by Lindz0518 :) I met her on bearded dragon.org as I'm the proud mama of a 2yr old female BD named Myah.:smitten: Myah is a BIG part of my life but she's in brumation right now and I haven't had lizard snuggles in about a month:( So, after seeing and hearing amazing things from my other forum members about Leo's I decided to start my research in the hopes of bring home a Tremper Albino Giant from the urban gecko!:D I'll spend the winter months researching and then see if I'd be a good leo mama.
I KNOW NOTHING! LOL!:main_laugh: so please be kind. I'll try very hard to find answers myself but may have to ask a few questions to clear things up.
Thanks, Holly:)

Hi Holly, and welcome! I'm new as well to the Leopard gecko world so I don't know as much as everyone on here but everyone has been extremely helpful to me when I need questions answered! Thats great that your doing a lot of research prior to getting one...I did the same. I looked, read, and researched about leo's for about a year prior to adopting my new 5 year Leo named Teak :) I hope you find your answers! Feel free to post in other categories and I'm sure people will be happy to answer any question you have!

Hi again!:) I found this set-up on Kijiji.

leotank_zps61f9de96.jpg

It's a 29 or 30gal. It's 24"L and 18"depth. It's a bit high but the floor space will work. The tank and stand will cost me $50 total. Will this work for a giant or a super giant?

I would think that's probably enough for one giant :) I know most people use a 10 or 20 for normal sized leopard geckos and around a 40 for breeding so it seems reasonable.

Thanks. I think I've decided to just get the stand, then hold out for a viv that opens from the front. I like them alot better and the breeder doesn't have just the right babe for me yet. I have time, I want everything to be perfect :D

Have you looked into exo-terra terrariums? I have a front opening terrarium from them for my crested gecko, it's such a beautiful tank, very easy to access and sturdy, also nice on the eyes! ^_^ Very well done for your patience and eagerness to research! Whenever you are ready, it sounds like your giant will be very well cared for! :)

Thank you geckoluver4evr and ghostoftangerine17:D I'm working very closely with Lindz. She's here and on my bearded dragon forum. She's been a rock. I'm so glad she pointed me this way. Everyone here has been wonderful.

The tank fell through:( His tank was only 13.5" in depth and 24" high! *sigh* So I started to call around and guess what!? I found an exo terra 24"L 18"D 12"H for $84! Brand new, on sale just this week! I'm so Happy!:nice: They were $120, so I'll take it! Now, I just want a metal stand and a UTH and then it's just waiting for the right babe!:D

I would honestly go bigger. My normal and my rainwater both have a 20 gallon long. In my opinion, that's as small as you should go. You want more floor so you can get a better gradient

I personally would look for a 40 gallon breeder. You cloud probably get away with a 20 gallon long, but with a giant or super giant I still say something 36" or longer. You don't need the height. I'm sure if you look around on Craigslist you could probably find one. They are much more common. You may even be able to find a 1$ a gallon sale. I would recommend a slide in screen top so that if you do have lights you won't knock then every time you have to take the lid off. Front access is nice. They tend to be more for the size you would want though.

Hmmm...The 24" long 18" deep was actually recommended to me by a person here who has super giants. Well, ok then. I'll go tomorrow and eye the viv up. If it looks too small, it'll be a no go.:)

I'm just saying from my experience I feel a 20 gallon long is bare minimum. Your super giant may be fine until he's a bit older, but it will save you from having to buy a second tank when he/she gets older and bigger. Super giants can be very large. I would have no room left if I had a tank like you were thinking about. By the time you get 3 hides a water dish and some climbing accessories, there won't be any room. I actually resorted to making my own double hide just to save space in my 20 gallon longs. Each one of my adults have a 20 gallon long to themselves. I honestly want to eventually get them each a 40 gallon breeder and then use my 20 gallon longs for cresties :)

You probably can find a 40 gallon breeder tank for way less then what you will pay for the one you are looking at.
