Retile carpet more heat resistant??

I noticed that the reptile carpet doesn't get nearly as hot as the sand did (on the side with the UTH). Is the reptile carpet more heat resistant so it doesn't get as hot?

Sorry...I'm sure that's worded all weird and is confusing :main_rolleyes:

Sand probably retains heat better than reptile carpet (but sand is not a godo idea at all), ceramic tiles retain and hold good heat temps. But as long as your hot side is the right temp it's fine.

I have been using sand with UTH and never had a problem with it. But sand does get to hot at some spot and my Leos Love the sand i tryed to use that carpet stuff but they dont like it for some reason. But if she lays her eggs in sand. One more time i am going to use slate. But sand is fine for a bottom. Get the fine grade with cal in it.

Sand is NOT fine for the bottom, some people use it with no ill effects but lots of people use it and get impactions that end with dead leos.

I would never recommend for someone to use sand. I did use it years ago and never had a problem but its not worth the risk and cali sand can be even worse, it promotes them to eat it which can lead to even more impaction problems than regular sand.

Sand isn't the best to use as a substrate. If you want to use it you can, though. I used it for like a week, then ditched it for carpet

Repti-carpet does resist heat more than sand does, but it gives enough heat at least IMO. It heats the underside of a plastic tub so that it turns the mist inside it into steam and makes the hide humid. As long as it does that, im a-ok with Repti-carpet:main_thumbsup:

Carpet is the best way to go IMO. My leos like it just fine, i don't have to worry about impaction, and it's easy to clean/maintain. Sand = BAD. it's not worth the risk.. if u really love ur leos don't take the chance!!
