So had a roach escape last night cat caught it. How did it get out!? My roaches are in a glass 20 gallon long tank with some slick metal near top just incase the climb the silicon on the corners. this is the second one to escape since i have had them. Both times it is BIG males. Are they flying out??? Thought they couldnt fly any good tricks to be 100% no escapes????

I heard that they CAN fly but not very high or far. So they probably flew out, if you want no escapees you should get a mesh top or something like that.

yes they "flew" out, the males usually are in a frenzy at night time they were probably arguing and one decided to leave. If i dont put the top on mine at night time then the males get out. one time one landed in my turtle enclosure the poor turtles were trying to eat him but he was too big.

IN the day time i dont need a top just at night. it seems to work good for me. or you can get a screen top for yours that way you dont have to worry about taking and putting the lid on.

If by magic the males make it out of the room then they have to go thru two cats. have to say i havent seen any.

I would recommend getting a screen top- those dubia roaches are escape artists! (The ones you get from me are certified roach magicians j/k!)

It is possible that they are flying out, however usually it is difficult for the males to fly "upward" out of a 20 gallon tank. More likely, the males are climbing up out of the tank at the 4 corners.

Since you do have 3 cats, you can save money on the screen top, and use them as free pest control!
