Roaches as a staple, some questions

I want to feed my gecko roaches as a staple when I get one, are there any little tricks or a guide that can tell me how many they should eat or should I just feed them as many as they will eat? I know with crickets I've read it's 2 crickets per inch and appropriate size.

Also, can I basically feed them anything as long as it's nutritious and I'm not gutloading at that moment?

What is recommended as a gut load for them?

Thanks!

Hello,

I just recently crossed over from crickets to Dubia roaches. how i figured out the cricket to roach ratio actually depends on the size of the roach you are feeding to the animal. I keep 1 male and 3 female leopard geckos in 1 enclosure which for me i drop 2.5 to 3 dozen crickets and just kind of eye ball it. sometimes they gobble them all up within mins and sometimes takes them 2 days at that amount. So i dump a hand full of large nymphs and watch them go to work. Feeding is really personal preference. some people feed more often in lesser portions and others feed larger portions less often.

now for producing roaches. again i keep Dubia roaches and i started with a large number of them so that it would take less time to get established.. and now i have way more then i even need for feeding so i kick over extra to close friends.

i keep mine in a 64QT platic tub with a small vent in the middle of the lid. egg crate on the left side and the food and water fish on the right side.

i use a 30 to 40 gallon reptile heat matt on the bottom of the platic tub for heat. for water i use water crystals for food i use my own blend of stuff. and every 2nd to 3rd day i cycle out oranges, apples, carrots, greens, ect...

the rest of the bin is very dry. its normally 80 to 88 degrees and the humidity from 40 to 50%

i hope this helps.
