I have been seeing a lot of talk about roaches lately. Who if anyone is feeding them to their Leos? If you are what do you thing of them? Would you use them as a primary food source or just use as a treat once and a while? Thanks in advance.

I just started a colony of lobster roaches. They are mainly for my bearded dragon, but Im giving some to my laying female. She seems to really enjoy them. They have a higher meat to shell ratio then crickets, which I think is good.

I feed to my geckos on a regular basis. They fill up on them much quicker than cricket or mealworms. I still feed my geckos mealworms and phoenix worms to give them variety.

Gut-loaded roaches are a very nutritious source of protein with little/no chitin (ectoskeleton). Roaches are easy to keep, gutload well, and have no smell.

I tired them on my geckos, and most of them went after them with a frenzy! Some of them are climbers, and can escape from containers, while other varieties do not. Lobster roaches will climb glass and plastic walls, but a thin layer of Vaseline around to top of the containers will stop them. I chose the Discoid and Orange-head nymphs, as they do not climb.

I mainly feed Dubia roaches (non-climbing species) to my geckos. These roaches are very easy to breed, and most of my geckos love them. My adults only eat 1 or 2 nymphs (~2cm length) per feed, and its enough to fill them up. I reckon they are less evil than crickets too...lol.

I feed dubias to most of my animals. I have a few geckos who don't show any interest in them. But most of them love them. The leos will eat 1-10+ per feeding. My pickiest eaters started gaining weight within a week of eating them. We feed the roaches a protein gut load, greens, and carrots. Our bearded dragon eats the adult size ones.

Paco,

I've been raising my own feeders for my archnid collection. From mealworms, to crickets, and now roaches. I'm particularly fond of B. dubia because they don't smell bad or make too much noise. I also read that roaches has higher protein content, less fat and chitin content compared to mealworms.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to a seller. I sent it to your PM. Scroll down the page, there is a feeder insect analysis.
