I am taking down a waterfall on my pond and have tons of rocks to use. I was wondering if I could us e them in a leopard gecko tank, but didnt know if that would make cleaning hard or wouldnt work. If so, what can I use for hides etc. other than little caves from petsmart?
Thanks, Luke

Here's mine that I made from rocks I found outside.

It's not a great picture, but I took a large flat rock (probably about 5 or 6 inches) and stacked two on one side and one on the other. Then I took smaller ones and stacked them in the back to close it. As you can see, I left a small hole, but most of it's sealed with small stacked rocks. All of these was held together with non-toxic aquarium sealant (don't use regular sealants, as most are poisonous). The top rock that I set on everything is the only thing unattached, but make sure it's very stable. I had to try a couple different rocks a couple different ways before I found it stable enough. It's a quick thing that only takes about 20 minutes at most.

Plus he likes to climb on it at night to warm his belly. :)

I think I've heard people around here recommending that if you get rocks from outside or you need to disinfect them completely you should cook them in the oven for a while. Not sure what temperature or duration is best tho.

I think securing them together with a sealant like Embrace said he did is important so they don't accidentally fall and crush your gecko.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. Some people use a bleach solution, but I'm nervous about that because rocks are porous, and since this goes directly under his light, I was concerned about some fumes being given off. That might just be me being paranoid and it's no issue at all, but I just went the oven route. I put all of them in there for about 10 minutes at about 190 degrees, I think.

For the record, I'm female. It doesn't bother me at all, just thought I'd mention it. :p

EDIT: My dad's girlfriend (who is one of those people who thinks she knows waaaayyyy more than she does) suggested I just stack the rocks without sealing them, and when I said that would risk crushing the gecko, she rolled her eyes and gave me "whatever." It's definitely not a good idea.

Sorry I assumed :p I guess I just thought anyone who liked a raccoon had to be a guy (Juuuust kidding). But do you know how annoying they are when they mess with your hair?!! I no longer have long hair but I still have nightmares of the raccoon cages at the rehab clinic I used to volunteer at...haha.

Most people assume I'm a guy over the internet. I'm a bit abrasive for a girl. XD Here's a pic that might make it a little more obvious:

:p He loved burying in my hair, but it didn't bother me any. I've had so many animals that it doesn't phase me anymore.

If I didnt use rocks, Is there a way to make a hide that isnt just a plastic looking thing? I want to try to make this look natural.
