Rough-textured real rock hide?

Hi all!

My Leo's been having trouble shedding on top of his head. Brought him to the vet and she told me that on top of soaking him in a wet paper towel (already has a moist hide), I could try buying a better dry hide made out of a real rock with a rougher texture that he could really get some friction on. Can't find anything on Amazon. Anyone here have a suggestion or link?

Thank you!

I have this kit in my exo terra tank along with cork flats that they like to rub on. Also I have this hide: http://www.pe tco.com/product/114642/pe tco-3-Level-Reptile-Hideaway.aspx that I have personally seen them use to rub off their skin. Another thing I like to do is when i see them about ready to shed I give them a nice five minute soak in 90 degree water in my sink. Then i put them back in their tank to do their own shedding. I never have issues with stuck shed. If I do run into the few stuck toes every now and then a nice five minute soak in 90 degree water and a Q-tip normally fixes it.

Giving a bit of unsolicited advice here, so take it or leave it: When a gecko is shedding properly, it just rubs or bites a bit to start and then pulls off the entire skin like a sock. Any hide with a little bit of texture should do (versus smooth plastic), or as mentioned, you could add a piece of cork or wood. They aren't like snakes or animals that shed in individual pieces that need to be scraping off their skin.

Things that can impact ability to shed are persistent low humidity, poor nutrition, or parasites. See if there's anything you can do to help improve your gecko's general condition if he's having trouble shedding. If you notice he isn't using the humid hide, you can always mist the cage or put a damp paper towel in the hides he uses when it's shed time.
