Sad Little Hatchlings

I just got 11 Leopard Geckos dropped off here. The 9 adults don't look TOO bad. But these hatchlings. MAN! :main_thumbsdown: I feel so bad for them. I'm wondering if it just wouldn't be better to just put them down. :(

I'm going to try hand feeding them a half of a mealworm now. I'll let you know how it goes...

Friends of mine had like 20 Leos they were planning on keeping & breeding. They had a baby about 3 months ago and just didn't have the time to care for them I guess. I've been trying to pressure them into just giving them to me since before the birth of their son. :( It took 9 of them dieing to finally give them up.

The 1st two babies pictured each took 2 mealies for me.

That is so very sad. But they are so resilient, I'm sure you will be able to nurse them back to health! Good luck and I'm rooting for you and the hatchlings.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. :)

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fatten these babies up quick (without stressing them out too much)?

Eeesh... if you haven't done fecals already, a little Panacur wouldn't hurt. Judging by the skinny tails and runny poo in the picture, I wouldn't be too surprised if they had pinworm.

Good luck with them, Stephanie. At least they're in good hands. :)

That is really sad. I would hate to see a Leopard Gecko like that.

Im sure you can bring them to great health. Your a great owner, who it is apparent cares about with animals.

This is very sad... I was given two clutchmates for free from a "breeder" because he could not take care of them and did not know how to get them to eat because they didn't just eat right off the bat... they looked even worse than yours do, I never thought they'd pull through. Fortunately, one of them grew up to be a nice healthy yellow-lavender; but unfortunately, the other had some sort of neurological problem (obviously the reason why he wouldn't eat, etc.) Are they all acting normal? The one we had that didn't make it could only walk in circles, with its head cocked to the side, and one of his eyes only opened half-way. We tried to save him anyway (forcefeed, etc), but had to euthanize him shortly after It was so sad. But like I said, one did make it!! So if there's nothing else wrong with them besides malnurishment, all the power to ya! Best wishes, and good luck!!!!

Yes, they're all very active (especially considering they're so thin). I have high hopes for the two that ate. :)

I would make sure they have PLENTY of water... I guarantee a little H2O will go a long way to helping them back to health.

Yep - probably de-parasite them all. I bet they'll get real healthy fast if you just give them all they want to eat every night. Leos never cease to amaze me how well they can bounce back from the direst of circumstances. I see a proud mommy in your future (you of course).

Marcia, email sent. :) Thank you.
_______________

I went and picked up these guys without speaking to my fiance about it. He was pretty ticked to see 11 15qt rubbermaids in the kitchen with animals in them that he didn't recognize. I got in 5 snakes this week already, so I had already been pushing my luck. Luckily after explaining the situation to him, Chris chilled out and actually fell in love with one of the little guys (last one in post #6, his name is Eddie).
_______________

As soon as I had gotten them home they received water (and drank greatfully). Their bowls were bone dry when I picked them up, so I'm not sure when the last had water (or food for that matter). All are eatting well for me except for the Blizzard & that one hatchling. Crickets tuesday night, mealworms this morning. I was afraid to feed them too much too quickly.
