After about 10 days of ignoring his crickets, by skinny little PetSmart leo, Sam, is finally eating! The solution was mealworms. I smooshed one and let him lick the guts. This made him so excited, when I held out the next mealie, he missed it and bit me instead! I only gave him five more (dusted with calcium and a herp multi-vitamin) because he is still a baby. Hopefully this should solve two problems: his low weight and the nasty crickets. :main_thumbsup:

You shouldnt judge how much he should eat on him being a baby. Just fill an acessible but worm-escape proof bowl with a dozen or more worms(medium or smaller for a baby, smaller probably) and let the baby judge, though he might over eat the first few times and barf a bit its better to have a full belly then a half-empty one with no availible food..

He ended up throwing up all 6 mealworms in the middle of the night. They were still whole. Dead, but whole. Could the big meal have been too much of a shock on his system? I offered him a mealworm this morning but he shows no interest.

Are you providing him with enough heat? They need a warm area of 90-92F floor temp. Also, Sam seems to be quite thin, if he isn't eating and is regurgitating its food, I think a fecal test is necessary.

Yes, he has a UTH with a thermostat set to 90. There is a hide on the warm side and a hide on the cool side. I provided six dusted mealworms in a dish before the lights went off last night. This morning, there are only two left. NO signs of gecko barf in the tank (like last time). Hopefully it was a one time thing.

Sometimes gecko's will get worried and hoard food in their throat/mouth back area. They will probably throw them up when they realize theyve all ready become full and whatever spooked or worried them is gone. Sam might have gone a little crazy last time because he was so hungry and afraid of not having food left for later days and when he realized his small belly was full he barfed up the rest. And now since their constantly provided during his feeding hours, he doesnt feel the need to over stuff himself anymore.
