Saved from Petco

Today i went to petco because my brother had to get crickets for his bearded dragons, so i decided to go in with him. I walked over to the leo’s section, and they looked actually pretty well, they are getting fed mealworms and they have a water dish. Right by the tank it said "Leopard Gecko up for adoption! ask an associate for details" so i asked an associate, and he took him out for me. A good chunk of his tail was bitten off from another gecko. Luckily i got him for absolutley nothing. This was about 3-4 hours ago and he is doing great, he actually ate. I can tell hes stressed, but its not unusual. I will be posting pics of him, and my other one from petco named Tweek. His tail was bitten off too, and i got him for $5, and hes doing great. I will be posting pictures of Tweek tonight, and of the new one (don’t have a name for him yet) as soon as i can

The Petsmart here, I have sworn off forever the leo's in there are so sad and sick looking, and one is missing it's tail too.

I seen crushed eggs in their one day and we asked a girl in their why the eggs weren't taken care of?

She replied with well I guess we didn't notice they were even preg, I was like you have 9 geckos diffrent sexes in one 20 gallon tank, and you didn't know?

Granted maybe the girl didn't know the sexes, and didn't know how to care for them.

Honestly, I would absolutely rip into a freak like that, probably nearly to the point of physical violence.

Kudos to you!!!! :main_thumbsup: I am all for 'adopting' otherwise unwanted PetCo reptiles rather than actually giving them money for a full-priced sick one from their store tanks and feeling like they 'rescued' it. When people buy unhealthy reptiles from PetCo and PetSmart thinking they can save them, what is happening in reality is that the stores are making their money with no incentive to do anything about the animals welfare.

I got both of my Leo's from Petsmart, the first one she is healthy other than her current hunger strike, and the baby I got most recent well I admit I did feel sorry for it and wanted to save it. She was all alone in that tank and looked sad and my boyfriend paid $15 for her. Now she eats like a cow and her tail is getting huge!

But I will NEVER buy from them again, I already had my leo's after I saw those eggs in that tank, when and if I do go in there again and I see more eggs I will say something evil to someone I"m sure.
