Over the past few weeks everyone, more than usual, has expressed how highly they think of me.. I just got an email telling me that my $10,000/year scholarship isn't going to be given to me.. how awesome am I now.

Dear Matthew,

Thank you for applying for the McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship.
We appreciate the time and energy you put into your application; however, we are
unable to offer you a scholarship at this time.

It was a pleasure getting to know a little about you and your business, and we
appreciate your having shared your life experiences and achievements with us.
It is clear that you, your parents and your community can be proud of your
accomplishments.

Then they gave me ways to find other scholarships so I wouldn't kill myself.

Pointless. Now I have no money to compensate for the HOPE I don't get because of the new standards. I can't afford college. Life's a *****.

By the way, I'll slowly be posting all my geckos for sale over the next month or two.

Matt, there are PLENTY of ways to get money for college. Have you looked into financial aids? Loans? If you still can't afford it, you can write the school and tell them your situation. Many times they will give you some sort of solution. Also, what about a community college? Trust me, with the people I have seen at schools I have been at, you can get in. I know someone here at Northern Illinois that cannot afford 1 semester here, but yet hes almost going into his senior year with help from the school. Don't give up.

Matthew, we all get dealt tough blows. But the word on the street is that the "Man Upstairs" never lays more on us than we can handle. You just have to grit your teeth, lift yourself up by your bootstraps and find something else to keep you going. I really do believe there's work out there for anyone that's willing. And just because you can't go to school now doesn't mean you have to put your plans on permanent hold. You're still sooooooooo young, and the world is literally wide open to you! My Best Wishes are with you! You'll Do It! :)

You should try applying for a few more scholarships. you could also ask around your community and find out how they got financing for school. financial aid helped my sister in law go to school at her community collage.

Sorry about that Matt, I for one know how great of a young man you are, you've helped me a ton over the last couple of years and I have the utmost respect for you.

I didn't have the money for college either (because at the time I was too stubborn to take money form my parents) so I worked 2 and 3 jobs to pay my way through. I didn;t finish my Associates degree mainly because my last job paid more than I would have made had I dfinished my degree. I still should have finished and plan to one day but there are ways.

there are student loans that don't even have to start to be paid back until your 3rd or 4th year after you finish and lots of other government programs you can look at.

hang in there, you are a great person and I hope things fall in place for you soon!

Hang in there Matt. No one has ever achieved worthwhile success without at one time or another finding himself with at least one foot hanging over the edge of failure. If you keep working at it, you will find a way to go to school.

Matt, I can understand your disappointment and discouragement. But like others have said, there are many types of grants and college funding... even zero to low % interest rates on student loans. Have you made an appointment with any of the schools' financial counselors?

I was working full-time 40-50 hours/week in the Semiconductor Industry while attending college, and yes, it was tough! I went to work at 3:30 every day, got off at midnight or later, and had 7:50 AM classes three times a week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays my last class was over at 2:50 PM, and I had less than 30 minutes to get from there to work. I studied until dawn and all weekend long... but I paid for my education!

There are lots of options, Matt. There are Community Colleges and City Colleges that can get you a 2 or 4 year degree, and they have financial aid. You may have to take a small class load and work, but you can make it!

DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

Don't worry about me. Things will work out.. this was just my rant. My dad and I can figure things out, I'm not going to community college. My parents had a really good point, this is the first thing I've gone after and not succeeded in. It's a good experience, I just thought I had a really good chance at this - where other things I've gotten I hadn't felt the same way.

Thanks for the support guys.
