Sealing a styrofoam and grout cave

Would it be safe to use a matte finish spray clearcoat? The styrofoam will be coated with grout so it won't melt. If I allow adequate curing time for the clearcoat would there be any fumes or chemicals present that could harm my geckos? Is sealing the grout even necessary?

I just made a styrofoam and grout house for my beardie. I will make something for the gecko soon. I did not seal it at all. Once the grout was hardened, I did sand the flat surfaces. It seemed very very rough to me. For a gecko, I will sand it even more, or use a smooth grout, I got the sand grout.

the purpose of the sealent is to keep the grout from getting contaminated(sp) i would use a marine sealer or something that is safe for pets. i am not even sure the clearcoat would bond that well
