ok, i just picked up my new baby Wolf yesterday- id been watching him for a month at a pet store that i LOATH and fell in love with him- i finaly was able to get him, with the full understanding that he would have potential problems.

the positives- he is active, very sweet ( never tried to bite once) and has survived with atleast good weight ( his tail is not skinny) and there were no visible parisites, clean eyes, no cuts, all toes, and moves around fine ( he is young enough that any calcium deficiency seems not to have an effect on him( hes not moveing about in pain) and he also likes to be held( in the store-on a grade scale compareing babies of his age, he is very hadleable) i place him to be around 4 months max.

the negitives- this store is notorius for its terrible treatment of its animals, filthy conditions and all around lack of knowledge of proper care. Wolf and his cage mate ( in the past month had gotten almost bigger than him ( she was half his size), and he hadnt gotten bigger by much at all) were on unchanged, uncleaned sand in a arborial cage ( the poop was there since a month back) with only light heating ( hence his very dark coloring at the store)- the poop, which the store keeper was proud to show me, said they were great eaters- i thought the poop was feline pine ( but bigger) at first ( silly me). anyway, dirty bowl, wrong this and that, no hides- anyway, had a breeder friend of mine check him out, she said he looked ok despite the conditions ( i was releaved)

current concerns- i got him home in a nice long 10 gal tank, set up with uth etc, and he patroled the area, alert and wide eyed but not stressed ( yay!) and within a couple of hours, he pooped this horrible poo that was as wide as the widest part of his tail and half as long! it consisted of a partialy digested cricket and mostly sand, all of it bone dry :( he seemed tiered after that, but after a while came back out and wanderd around some more. this morning, i found ANOTHER poo, same size, a little shorter, and all sand.

so, what can i expect at this point? i know i need to bee on the lookout for parisites- how should i go about feeding him? i know soft bodies is the best right now ( i have him on papertowels, btw) any suggestions or small crickets should be ok? should i soke him a little in warm water to get the rest of the sand out ( the sand is comeing out in bricks, not being pushed out like a normal poop) or would that stress him worse ( i know the 1-2 week rule, but in this case, what should i do?) i just want to make sure my new baby is going to be ok.

sorry about my length, hopefuly some brave soul will read it ;)

That sand has to come out, so the more he poops, the better. After he's settled in and comfy, soaks would be good to keep things moving along. A fecal test needs to be done! Most parasites are microscopic so you wouldn't see them, but the conditions your gecko was kept in before definitely warrants a sample be taken to a qualified reptile vet.

well, he stopped pooping for a week and finaly let one out last night- it was smaller in comparison, still too large for him, and still consisted of sand, but it looked easier to pass for him. his color has compleatly changed as well! hes eating well, still not into ventureing his tank, but takes to attention just fine ( minimal of course)- ive been trying to handle him as little as possible, and just so happy he finaly pooped again yesterday-
here is how he looks now XD

Wow! What a change! You've got a beautiful gecko on your hands and so nice of you to rescue him, who knows how he would've ended up.

thankyou :) he was dark the whole month he was at the pet store, so i thought hed stay that way- what a surprise! i learned so much in the last week about temps and so on- ill deffinitly try the mineral oil- im sure his intestines could use an easy pass- thankyou for all the help :)
all i can think though now, is about a year or two ago, i remember seeing a full grown dark gecko just like him at a sister store, who was so emaciated and there for a couple of months befor he "disapeared" so i wonder if he was related to my wolf? who knows :(
