I just got my leo last thursday and I have been trying to do my best to get her to get used to me, but I seem to be failing miserably. Every day when I come to change her water or mist her hide she panics and then immediately runs back into her humid hide when I am done. I understand that it will take time for her to get used to me, but is there anything else I can do so I don't scare her all the time? I put my hand in her tank for a few minutes every day, and I make sure to move slowly and quietly when doing things in her tank.
I've tried holding her as well, but she really panics when I try that... I honestly just don't want to stress her out all the time. Is there anything else I could be doing to help her settle in and calm down better? How long do most leos take to calm down and be more acceptive of handling?
When it comes to this I understand that patience is the key, and I also understand there is a possibility that she might just be this way... But mostly I want to make sure that for my part I am doing the best I can do, and this includes not scaring the poopy out of her every time I need to do basic things in her tank.
I'll have to admit the first two leos I had back in middle school had been classroom pets, so they were already chill beyond reason when I became their owner. So as you can imagine, this is quite a different experience...
Any comments are appreciated, and I really thank you for your time.
