Hey guys, how are you all doing? My name is Curran, and I'm from Colorado. I am a first time Leopard Gecko owner (Or pre-owner, I haven't bought one yet). I am very excited to care for one of my own. I have done some research on Leos but still have many questions. Any help is greatly appreciated :D !

To start off, here are my questions: :help:

Substrate? I've read a lot about the issues concerning sand and calcium sand formulas and they can lead to impaction and possibly death, so that's a no-go. Reptile carpet seems like the right choice, right?

Is a ten gallon terrarium enough floor space (one Leo)?

Lighting and Heating? Any preferred lights/setups you care to share. Heating Methods/setups, tips or advice.

Feeding Schedule/Food? I will be feeding my Leo live Crickets, so how, and when (days/time of day) should I be feeding them? Do you feed in or out of the terrarium itself.

Calcium Dish? Is this required, how do the Leos use it?

Hides? How many should be in use, as well as dry or moist hides? Preferred hide type?

Light Cycles? For day and night.

Food Dish? Is a separate food dish a necessity?

Heat Rock? Is a heat rock a necessity?

Temperature? Ideal temperature for cool and warm sides?

Overall terrarium setup? Where to place hides, moist hides, water dish, food dish, decor, heat rock, underneath heat mat, lights/heat lamps, etc...

Where to buy? Should I buy a Leo online or buy one at a store like petsmart? If online, any good websites for quality and price?

UVA/UVB? I'm I correct in saying that Leos don't require UVA or UVB lighting, because they are nocturnal?

Any other terrarium objects needed? Anything you care to add.

Additional care tips or advice? Again, anything you care to add.

If I didn't cover something, feel free to bring it up, and inform me about it!

If you want, you can surely add me as a friend! :main_thumbsup:

Thank you to anyone and everyone who reply's to this, your help is truly appreciated! :D

Substrate - ideally, slate tiles or paper towels.

10 gallon is perfect for 1 leopard gecko, but 20 is better if budget permits.

Under tank heating pad (should cover 1/3 of your tank), no light required, use a red bulb for night time viewing.

Young leopard geckos eat twice a day, adults eat once every day or other day. Feed as much as they'll eat in 15 mins. You can feed them inside their tank.

Buy calcium without d3 powder, leave them in a dish or bottle cap inside the tank. They'll lick it as they need. Also purchase multi vitamin powder to dust your feed with.

3 hides, 1 on the warm side, 1 on the cool side, 1 in the middle as the designated moist hide. Use wet paper towels or moss in it.

Light not required.

Food dish not required, but water dish is required.

Do not use a heat rock, buy an under tank heater.

90-95 degrees warm side, cool side should be your room temperature as long as it doesn't drop below 70.

Where to buy, you can start by checking out the site sponsors on top of the forum.

You should do some more research before getting a leopard gecko judging by some of the things you posted. Start reading posts on this forum, there are tons of useful information that'll make you a better leopard gecko owner. Good luck!
