Severums

So after balancing my goldfish tank out I wanted to add some bright gouramis and a type of rainbow fish...
but after three pet stores none of them were appealing. At the last petstore they had awesome severums, and I bought four. They are very young, only like two inches head to tail.
They haven't' regained their color in a day. They were nice color when I bought them. I kept the receipt but I am worried that I may have to return them.
Does anyone else have experience with them?

Here is some pics sorry for the quality they are small and fast right now. (And decorations are going to change..they look silly with the chinese theme)

I have raised young baby gold severums up to adults and they have spawned and I was lucky enough to actually end up with babies

What would you like to know about them?
I found them to be an easy fish to keep

Has their color changed since you brought them home or is it just different than the color that thy were in the tank in the store?

If the color has changed from what they were in the store it could be the different of tank lighting used there and on your tanks

Of they could be stressed from the move

What are your nitrate and ammonia levels at?
You should not have a reading of any nitrites if the tank is cycled

Let's back up here

When was the tank set-up and what size is it-how many gallons?

How many inches of fish do you have in it now and how often have you been adding fish

If you are not using a seeding bacteria (I still can't remember the name of the one that has to be refrigerated) then with each fish that you add-you start a mini-nitrogen cycle all over again in your aquarium

This means that your nitrates will rise and also the ammonia levels will increase

The way that this was taken care in the stone age-before bottles of nitrifying seeding bacteria were available to the hobbyists- was to do major water changes to bring the nitrates and the ammonia levels back down to a safe level

The key really is not to add too many fish too fast or your tank will crash and everything will die

The Severums will eventually grow as large as an Oscar
Both the Orange and the Green Severums are really beautiful fish with long trailing finnage

Anyway-let me know if I can help with any other questions and i will try my best

I spent many years keeping multiple tanks of both tropical and gold fish before I switched to reptiles

I wish that I had pics of my Gold Severums-they were huge and beautiful

I have had full sized severums before, if you read my other post I had a bloodworm feeding that had a parasite and killed all my fish. I know about the cycling too, I added some seachem additive that helps transition fish and controls the nitrates and ammonia that is caused by stress and change.

There are four very small severums in a 25 show currently. They were added together with no other fish.

I had goldfish in the tank but my ph was perfect 7.0 and my nitrates reading was healthy, I can't remember the exact but it was alright. Not perfect.
But this tank has been up for...I would say ten months?

The color has changed from store to home and two have gotten some color back.

My adults never changed color so I am not sure whats going on with them.
