This is Sam. I bought Sam back in September and s/he was born in May 2010. Sam was sold to me as a male, but I've been watching Sam for a while and even though s/he is bulgy I'm not sure if its a male or female because I don't see the thick waxy pores that I've seen on pictures of male geckos. Is this because sam is a light colored gecko?

Can anyone tell me for sure what sex Sam is? Thanks!

I'm also uploading a video if the pictures aren't good enough quality since Sam stayed still for a little bit while I held s/he and recorded it. :) If anyones interested I can post it when its done uploading!

Video of Sam's "Bulge" (if you click on it you should be directed to the video).

Really? LOL! And I bought Sam from a member on this site as male. Wow. I guess I'm going to be looking for a male at NARBC this Feb! And she eats like a monster! :D

So males should have the dark V even though they are light colored?

No she was sold to me as a VISUAL male last September by a member on this site. I'm disappointed at this news, BUT - I love her. I also bought two "females" from this person, so now I'm wondering if they were sexed correctly or not.

Yeah I live in GP, close to Irving. I feel like bringing you the lot of geckos I bought from them now lol cause they all have a little bulge to them. The other two are two months younger, though.

I could email you pictures of all the vents? I think I still have your email.

Okay, sounds good -- but just to note, I did pick up Chubby and studied him despite his disapproval of my investigation lol. His bulge has a visible division and I can see his pores and they're very rough when I rub on them, but Sam's bulge has no division and no pores and no roughness in the vent area when I rub on them. If that makes any sense or helps :)

If anyone else is interested in the high res pics let me know :)

Okay, pictures on the way. Interesting thing about DSLR -- it captures every detail lol. Never used it on my geckos before, but I think its even more female now cause I took pictures of the other "girls" that I was sold and there is a visible dark-spotted line on one of them which isn't on the other two. Let me know what you think Shawn :)

Okay, here are some more pics that I took with my DSLR if any of you want to look at them too. G1 & G2 are the two "girls" that I bought from the same breeder on this site. And then there is the mystery bulgy Sam that was supposed to be a male but has no pores. :) If anyone has anymore answers let me know!

LOL... Sorry, I had the same problem with a "male".... We got him from the pet store but we also met the breeder. The breeder himself told us it was a male. Turns out our male is carrying two eggs now...

Its really hard to tell at times a male from a female. Our "male" has a huge bulge and his vents are quite noticeable compared to the other 4 females we had. And when you dont have a real male to compare its easy to mistake!

BTW... Nice pics... You have all Girls....

Hmm personally i can see very LIGHTLY the pores. Sam maybe a male just a late bloomer. One of my males didnt get his vent/pores till he had met a female:p He was around 7 months tho when his appeared. Same could be a small buldged male or even a late bloomer? The other two do look female tho. when Fuzzy takes a look at them be sure to let us know what he said.:main_thumbsup:

Still waiting to hear back from him and we'll probably meet up later in the week. I have a male gecko thats like 6 months old that has bigger balls than this gecko ;) LOL! Which is why I'm like stabbing my eye out over this. :main_thumbsdown:

I guess I could always put Sam in with my patternless female and see how they interact and if there's any tail wiggling to really find out lol
