Shes a Poecilotheria metallica. More commonly called a Gooty Sapphire.

WOW!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!! Did you buy her sexed as a female or and unsexed sling? They are one of the prettiest tarantula's imo but they come with a nice price tag :main_thumbsup:

Jeff - We actually got her just a year ago as a sexed female. I've been trying to learn how to breed these guys, but my gosh, is it complicated!! I may just end up enjoying her beauty for the next couple decades.

Kyle - I believe Ornamentals are the common name given to the Poecilotheria species. (I think)
Watch out for tarantulas, though. They're as addicting as geckos! If you should want to get a good beginner arboreal, I really recommend any of the Avicularia species. I'm on the lookout for a versi, myself. Not as quick as the Pokies, absolutely beautiful to watch, easy to handle and its worse defense is the super soaker poop, which is more hysterical than scary.

Brigid - I know what you mean! I had taken her out once to clean her enclosure and she bolted on me! Thankfully, a dear friend of ours we call the "T Guru" was here and could corral her. She is incredibly fast!!

I know absolutely nothing about spiders, and to be honest I'm incredibly creeped out by them. But I have a question, is there name really Metallica? Like the band?

Poecilotheria metallica is it's latin name, but it was described in 1899 so no relation to the band.
