Our blue & gold macaw named Sheba~She used to be a part of a bird show at Disney's rainforest cafe'. She has several things she can say and likes to greet us with a big "HI" when we come in the door.

Another old thread.:( Sadly, Sheba began plucking severely at around age 12{most likely hormonal}
It led to self mutilation.:main_no: I wrestled with my feelings about her, tried everything I could to get her to stop, but in the end I found a better environment for her. She is now thriving once again, and living with a woman who has many other large macaws. This seemed to do the trick to snap her out of the plucking. We miss her very much. But I am satisfied with the knowledge that she is doing much better there.

We kept a plucking quaker for a year, we were his 3rd home. He just didn't like humans after a while so we passed him on to friends of ours who have their own "anti human" quaker in a huge aviary and he's now happy as can be, full feathered and just a happy growlin green bean. He "talks" to us on the phone when we call them and they're outside. *lol*

It's a hard thing emotionally for us humans, but we know they're happier in the end. Out of my 7 Tiels, 2 are brothers and they preen each other bald headed. Weird little tielies.
