Shed Stuck on Eyelid - Guidance Needed

Leroy just completed his shed and I'm noticing the tiniest piece of shed is left on one of his eyelids. I've read a few posts on using soaking for stuck sheds but didn't find anything on eyelids where a soak would not help as much.

I was thinking about using a wet q-tip and trying to gently rub it off. Is this the correct approach?

Also, I'm not sure of the best way to hold him. I've had him since August and I've been handling him a few times a week since he settled in with no problems but I never try to hold him stationary because he doesn't like it.

Should I try to hold him or just put him in a tub and try to rub it off while he moves around?

Thanks,

Luca

i just realized my leo has eye problems too... in the disease and health section there are several great threads on this topic... i just read about 10 of them... all of them helpful and informative...

what i'm going to try is saline solution and a q-tip... i hold them a bit firmly when i'm trying to take a picture of their eyes or force feed them... but that's' just me... whatever works best for you will be the best way to do it...

good luck... and keep us updated...

i have this problem a lot with one of my albino girls she always seems to get shed stuck in her eye. i use a wet cotton wool bud which i think you americans call q-tips and just rub it of gently i trap her in a really humid hide for a hour or so first and so its nice and soft. I normally hold her in a small hand towel this way you can stop her whole body and head moving while you rub her eye. Hope this helps.

i'm not making fun of you or anything... but i LOL'd at what you wrote... i read cotton wool bud, and i was like... WTH is that and where can i find some... then i read it's a qTip... hAHAHAHKdjf;lkdjfskaldf... man that was a good chuckle...

good advice on the forced humid hide... i have an extra container with just air holes up on top... i might do that next time a leo has a tough shed...

Luca, yes just use a wet q-tip and see if you can rub it off gently. If its only a teeny-weeny piece on the eyelid (not affecting the eye), perhaps you can leave it as it is; it will come off in the next shed. I don't soak my geckos when they have retained shed; because the shed will soften immediately as soon as you wipe it with anything wet. Then you can rub it with something until the edge roll up and you can peel it off.

As to whether you should hold the gecko still; everyone does it differently. You'll have to see what works best for you and your gecko. I personally don't hold them still; I put them on my lap while sitting on the sofa (soft landing in case they jump). I let them climb on me and when they stop moving, I work on the stuck shed. I stop when they decide to move again, and so on.

One important thing is to deal with retained shed asap. They come off much easier when "fresh".

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm going to wait till tomorrow and see if it's still there. If it is, I'll try using a wet q-tip (cotton wool bud :) ) to get it off.
