Shedding issues

I have a Leopard Gecko and she is about 2 years old. She is very healthy and all is well.....almost.

she sheds on a normal basis but it seems like lately while she sheds, she has a problem of a piece of skin getting in her eye and it covers her eye ball. she licks at it trying to get it out but no luck. (there isnt a piece to grab by hand to try and pull off, its forming her eye ball perfectly). we have had to free some of the skin off for her around her toes but other than that, she's been fine.

as for the eye issue, we bought some saline and will attempt to wash her eye out tonight with it. do we need to do a saline/water mixture to dillute it or do we use it right out of the bottle? should we do a saline wash then rinse with normal water? what if this wash does not work and the skin is still in her eye?

as of right now, there is no redness or swelling, so i think we still have a margin of time before we'd have to get her to the vet.....

You should do a sauna for her...

Take a container, put some napkins/paper towls in there make them damp with water. Put her in the container and it should be on top of something hot. I use a rice sock (I acutally have a marketed one but you can make a rice sock). Just take rice put it in a big sock and warm it up in the microwave for not too long. Put the container ontop of the sock and let it heat up. It'll start to fog up, make sure she stays in there for about a half an hour or longer. All the hard to get off skin will come off.

You can use saline solutine directly. Remember, this is what we use for contacts and it goes directly in our eyes without it burning. Hope it helps get it out. Even if you can get it moved far enough to the corner of the eye where it sticks out enough where you can use tweezers (carefully! the animal will probably be squirming around.) and pull it out the rest of the way. Good luck!

we just got done washing her eye with saline and used q-tips to pull the skin out. it took a while to do but it worked. at times she squirmed around but for the most part i think she enjoyed it since it was probably irritating her........we'll recheck tomorrow night to make sure all is gone......

but id say it went well!!

thank you
