Shedding problems

One of my leopard geckos have always a hard time shedding. She never EVER uses her moist hide. Right now she is taking the shed off her head. She has skin on her tail, like half the tail, and 3 of the 4 legs. I'm fine with taking the shed off the toes, but what should I do with the tail. And remember she isn't the nicest of all my geckos. Any opinions on this?

We have misted the entire tub or tank for some that refused a moist hide when they were ready to shed. It really didn't give them a choice. I believe there are some commercial shed aides, but I have personally not used them.

Don't bother with the shed aids - they are a waste of money. You can do just as well yourself with misting. Try misting the tail itself, and it may take more than one tank misting to get enough humidity to help (depending on size of tank, ventilation, etc).

Since it's not 'one of your nicest of geckos', I'm guessing a warm soak is out of the question? That would help.

I have been giving warm soaks, but for some reason after 10 minutes, she would just duck hear head down in the water. That gets me scared. >.< Before of the tail problem there was a long strand of the stuck shed from her body. I just put my finger on the shed and she started walking and it came off.

Just some updates. She has taking the shed off her lower jaw but not the top of her head. Like the neck area to the nostrils. Should I help her take it off or wait for her to do it herself.?

I would give her a little help, retained shed on the head is very hard to get off by herself.

I went to take a nap and checked back on her. Though she is in a glad container in the moist hide right now :), and From what I see from the hole the shed on her face is gone and skin on her tail. I cant see the feet because the glad container is frosted.

When I got home I have misted the tank already :)

Really not a good thing to do.
Too much humidity can cause respiratory problems
resulting in vet bills and even death. (and not to the Vet)
Trust me, I mist tanks no more.
You can make a shedding assistant.
Take a PVC pipe length, slice the diameter in about half.
Makes 2 flat bottom tunnels..........They love it as a hide and
turn circles inside to rub off the shed. Can lightly mist
it like a Humid hide at the time you see they are shedding.
I have them in all my tanks....(.Pretty inexpensive and works)
Take care. HJ

Thank-you, though Pepper has taken off all her shed for some reason. Though I would like to try that. You should make a Guide with pictures :)

H.J. -Thanks, I never thought of the humidity being a problem (for a temporary period that is). I usually just try to mist or soak the problem shed area -- or coax her into her moist hide. But they can be stubborn when they want to...

Misting the tank seems like such a natural suggestion:main_rolleyes:

Oh, and a pic or two of your shed assistant would definitely help:main_thumbsup:

And I'm glad her shed came off without intervention!!!!
