Shedding problems.

I've had my leo for about a year and a half. He came to me a teeny, stick-thin rescue and has since beefed up considerably to the point where I'm afraid he might be slightly overweight. Lately he's been having difficulty shedding. Instead of coming off in one piece, it splits down the center into a "hood" and "pants". He works himself into exhaustion trying to get it all off, and even then still has little shed socks on his feet and a bit stuck in his vent that I have to soak and remove.

He's also been licking at his vent a lot. I have read that this could be a parasite problem, and now that I think it has been happening more often since I switched to mealies bought from a different store than usual.

Any advice on either issue?

Do you have a moist hide for him? Make sure its wet when he sheds... otherwise keep doing what your doing.

Licking at the vent area... is it a male or female?
Could possibly be a prolapse? Have you checked the area to make sure?
Or parasites...

I have a humid hide for him. He uses it around the time that he sheds, but rarely ever otherwise.

Definitely a male. No prolapse. I think I may just have him dewormed, just in case.

how is the humidity in your house? I have one girl who has trouble shedding when it is too dry in my house, but when the humidity is up in my house she sheds fine. She has a moist hide that I ensure is always moist, but for some reason when the humidity in my house gets low she sheds badly.
