So I have a 1 and a half year old super hypo carrot tail male leopard gecko named Apollo. I have him in a 15 gallon aquarium with paper towel as substrate, the cool side is 75 degrees and the hot side is 90 degrees. He has 3 hides one of Which is a moist hide. I feed him six crickets every other day and supplement properly. He is having shedding problems with his toes though. I give him a moist hide with moist paper towels in it and keep the towels moist. About a week after failed shedding I bathe him and caress the toes with a wet q-tip. It does not work though because the shed remains on. I bateh him more than once every failed shed too.also he doesn't eat his shed. He is very healthy but can you guys give me any advice to help with his shedding problem because I feel so bad for the little guy

And I take it you tried rubbing while soaking it? Usually with my guys when their toes are having a hard time shedding I just rub gently (some times with my nails) while soaking and it seems to work...sounds like this guy is giving you a hard time.

Hopefully some one will be around. I usually hate putting things other than water, or normal stuff just imo. I'm sure someone is going to suggest it though.

I hope he gets better soon :)

Be sure to keep the bath water nice and warm, let him soak about 20-30 minutes. A q-tip moistened with pharmacy grade mineral oil or pure olive oil can be used to "carress" his little toes, like rolling off socks. Be sure it all comes off so he doesn't lose toes. Dry winter heat causes shedding problems for a lot of reptiles, sometimes we have to do some extra stuff for our pets :)

You shouldn't have to bathe him, his moist hide should do the job just fine. I'm not sure if bathing would be bad persay as I don't know how much water they absorb when bathing them. Beardies only absorb it through their butts, so they don't get 'too' much water.
