I saw in the Substrate poll that someone used shelf liner. I think its a good idea, but being new to geckos I wanted to make sure it was okay before going out and buying some for my aquarium. Anyone??

I use the thick non-adhesive kind (as opposed to the plastic adhesive ones) in my 10 gallon. Compared to my other tank that has tile, the shelf liner doesn't provide as much insulation against the uth, so my floor temps tend to be higher with the shelf liner. You might want to invest in a thermostat to keep from burning your gecko. Also, poop is harder to clean, so I suggest you lay a piece of paper towel in the corner your gecko goes to the bathroom in to make it easier for yourself. And one more thing, I've actually had mealworms escape from their dish and eat through the liner... not really that important but a pain in the butt. lol

Ya, that was the kind of liner I was talking about. I saw your post and thought it looked kind of neat. I don't know if its my heater or what, but it really doesn't seem to produce that much heat?? When I move the substrate and even touch the actual glass it barely feels warm and even though I have the humid hide on it, it doesn't feel that warm in it.

I thought the same thing about mine (but I use astroturf as a substrate... great stuff!). But from feeling the warm area it never seems that warm... so last night I put my thermometer in the warm hide laying on the floor (rather then attached to the glass near the hide), and the temps were right no target, and that was without my light on....

Okay thanx. I am going to get a thermometer and get mine checked. I want to make sure his warm spot is warm enough so he can digest his food properly. :)
