Shipping places....

I have to vent about shipping places or where I ship from. I know some people have UPS or FedEx come out and picjk up the packages. I take mine and drop them off at a hub I guess it would be called. In the begining it was great but as of the last few weeks it has been crazy. I take a package (gecko) and drop it off with them. I always wait until as late as possible so the gecko is not just sitting someplace all day. And this way they do not get packed up until late in the day. Anyways, I leave and before I even get home they have called and said that I had missed the pick!!!!!! WHY???? Not tell me when I am there?? Needless to say when I went back to pick up the package I was NOT a happy camper. For those of you that have the shipper come to your home and pick up does this work well??? More trouble than it is worth?? And what time do they come pick up the animal?? Sorry Ijust had to vent to someone. The 20 minute drive one way is bad enough to do once but back and forth twice!!

Yeah dude that does suck. Fed ex has a late pick up..animal has to be ready by 5 pm..but they can show up any time between 5 and 9 lol...I dont leave work untill 5:30 so if they get there before me I still have to do the 30 min. drive to the hub...Wich sends stuff out at a set time of 8:30 here. Or I can go to the kinkos wich is only a 15 min. drive but I could miss there pick up that takes the packages to the main hub ...so I usually just take the 30 min drive to be safe and skip the extra pair of hands on the box.

I guess that is what I am going to start doing as the trouble with this place just seems to be getting worse. I am interested in knowing about them picking up too though. I may have to call a couple of the shippers and find out.

We have always had UPS come pick up our packages and it works out GREAT. No driving and when you schedule a pickup (you can either call or do it on the website) you can choose when you would like them to come by. We always say between 5pm and 7pm, that way the geckos can be packed up at the last minute and isn't sitting in the truck all day. I would highly recommend having them pick up the package, we've had trouble with the hubs before as well.

There is a charge for using pickup services for me as a UPS shipper as I don't have a daily pickup. You might want to check that out first. I just drive to the end of the day rendevouz point in town and catch the Next Day truck, it goes directly to the hub. That works fine for me. :)

They don't even offer a pick up service where I live.:( I will be driving 30 minutes one way when I start shipping.

I live out in the country, fortunately it is about a 10-15 minute drive for me to meet the last next day air truck that goes directly to the hub. In my situation too if I had a pick up they would be not be going directly to the hub and that is more time in transit for the geckos. Any extra time in a UPS truck on a hot day/freezing day is putting the geckos at risk, especially with the fiberglass roofs they have on those trucks!

I am 25 minutes away. I don't understand how you can miss a shipping time, since they are scanned in at my hub well after the center is closed.

Sorry, I used "you" meaning "anyone", that wasn't directed at you.

I can't understand how a shipment can be dropped off too late to ship. They close, then the packages are sorted and scanned. The only way I can see that being possible is by using kinkos or the ups store, not the actual shipping company.

You get a tracking number and delivery date when you pay, so only a complete moron would take a package in too late IMHO.....

Not understanding this.....

Am I being called a moron? I was told I was too late to be able to ship out. Think maybe there is just a misunderstanding somewhere.

take in as in recieve for delivery. I was trying to word that correctly as to not be misunderstood, but apparently I failed:main_laugh:

Did you not say they took the package, then called you afterwards to say it was too late to deliver the next day? If so, the shipper is a complete moron and tell him I said so :main_thumbsup:
