Should I use 100 watt

Ok so I know at the hot side of the tank it should be 90-95 and cool it should be 70-76. Well some days depending on how cold it is I can use just my UTH and my thermometer will read 90.2 on the hot side, while on cold days like today (we had a few inches of snow) I can turn on my UTH and my 50watt bulb right above the hot side and it will stay at just 84-86 on the hot side. So I was freaking out because at mid-day it was only 84 and dropping on the hotside. So I traded out their light for a 100watt that I was trying to incubate crickets with. I put this on the other side of the tank and turned off the UTH. after it warmed up a but it leveled out at 95.6 in the warmest point and of course the gecks flocked over there. They seemed to be happy but that lamp just looks so hot. So basically does it just matter what the thermometer says or should I use my own judgment when I think its too hot I (I wouldnt want to sit under that lamp). Also when I use the lamp and the ground temp is 95 is the air temp above it more or less than 95.

Ohh and by the way is 100 watts at about 2 1/2 feet away to hot to incubate cricket eggs.
