Ok so I have a 13yr old Leo that's at 60grams and a 6ish month old Leo at 28grams. They have met and there have been no fights but my younger one is acting a little timid. Should I wait to put them together till she is bigger? I've been told my petcare ppl where I work at petsmart that she is big enough and my mom is telling me to give her time but i want to ask the experts. Please let me know!!!

May I ask why you want to put them together? They prefer to live alone actually and that way you don't have to worry about one being bullied when there's food around. Keeping them separate is a much better way to keep track of health in my opinion.

Meh, I agree with Chris. Leopard geckos are best kept in their own tubs or cages. Only exception would be a few females that hatched out as clutch mates and already lived together.

Females can be brutal if you just decide to throw one in ones home. Trust me, I've seen it happen many times! I've actually had females that were together from hatchlings then I separated them for a month or two and re-introduced them and together one was very territorial.

That is the first time ive heard they prefer to live alone. Every other breeder ive talked to has told me they are colony animals.

That does not sound right to me from all the breeders i have talked to on GF. And most of the big breeders are on GF. Yes some breeders do have harems and are successful with them, but the geckos are just fine by themselves and this reduces any risk of fighting, injury, tail loss, food domination, etc. And you can keep track of each animal when they are housed individually.

I personally use RhinoRaxx from Boaphiles to individually house all of my geckos. This is my first year breeding but I am having a great deal of success with all of my breeders/hatchlings. I feel that unless they are together from hatchlings, it isn't worth it to keep them together. Keeping them by themself is a great way of keeping track of them like people have been saying. Just make sure you do whats best for your geckos

Darkangel212, you should wait until your little one puts on some more weight, if you want them to give together then you should wait until they are roughly the same size so your bigger one doesn't automatically assume dominance over the smaller one. My two female geckos live together, and I believe they prefer it this way, when my older gecko lived alone she would just sleep all day and she was getting very fat, now she has a room mate, she is a lot more active, we even catch them sneaking into each others hidey holes on a night and find them sleeping together in the morning :) I don't see any other reason why they would want to do that unless they liked each other, there are 6 hides in their tank, so there is plenty of room, but they choose to be together. Your little one may not reach the size of your bigger one, but I would wait until she reaches 50 g, and then introduce them. We bought a new tank and put them both in it at the same time (after introducing them in the past) so that neither would have territorial issues. Not all geckos get along, but I believe some of them can live together happily, if your going to put them together your going to put them together, so may as well give you advice on how to do it well.
