Hello all, my gecko atm is very lathargic, not eating and not opening his eye(blind in left eye). He has not ate in probably 3 weeks. He opens his eyes only when we actively play with him or bath him. Long time ago i had a female which was his sister who died of a infection to her eyes(parasite). We took her to the vet many times and still she passed away. I fear my boy has the same infection... he was very fat and now hes showing signs of being skinny.
Note:
We bath him in warm water, and sometimes give him Nutri-Cal with mineral oil in case he has impaction.

About your leo:
- Sex: male
- Age & Weight: 5 years old- unknown weight
- How long have you owned your leo: almost 5 years(was a baby)
- Where was he/she obtained (ex. Pet store, breeder, wild caught, friend)
Pet store
A) Health/History
- How often do you handle your leo - almost every day, if not other day.
- Is your leo acting any different today? If so how does he/she normally act which differs from now. - He used to be very active and friendly. Now he just is sleeping basically 24/7 and not eating.
- Has he/she had any problems in the past, if so please describe. - He had problems with his eyes which was given to him by my girl. He has been blinded in his left eye for years now.
B) Fecals
- Describe (look any different than normal) - I see a few fiber strings in his poop which is probably from the coconut husk fibers that we bought from the pet store for his bedding.
- When was the last time he/she went - he actually went last night, first in like 2 weeks.
C) Problem
- Please briefly describe the problem and how long it has been going on
Basically is not eating and showing signs of being lethargic.
Housing:
A) Enclosure
- Size
- Type (ex. glass tank) -glass
- Type of substrate - none now(used to be sand, coconut husks, wood chips ect)
- Hides, how many, what kind - none
B) Heating
- Heat source - lights
- Cage temps (hot side, cool side) 85-95 hot side, 75-80 cool side
- Method of regulating heat source - light
- What are you using to measure your temps - a actual cage thermometer
- Do you have any lights (describe)
yes a white light and a red light ( using 1 light at a time since its the summer)
C) Cage mates
- How many (males, females) - just himself.
- Describe health, or previous problems
Blind in left eye, used to be blind in both eyes for a couple weeks. He has fought very hard many infections to his eyes couple years ago and almost lost him.
Describe Diet:
A) Typical diet
- What you're feeding (how often, how much)
mealworms and crickets - he usually stopped eating after 2-3 back then
- How are you feeding (hand fed, left in dish, ect) - i had to feed him by hand and putting him in a bucket because he is mostly blind. Although i used to feed him directly in the cage.
B) Supplements (describe how often)
- What vitamin/minerals are you using (list brands) - Nature's Reptile Vita Spray, Reptile Xtra anti-parasite meal, and Repto-Calcium
- What are you gut loading food with - i use gut load on our crickets.

Thanks for your time and please comment if you have any suggestions!

Get an heat mat or under the tank, to heat 1/4-1/3 of the floor area, a digital probe thermometer attached to floor on the warm side, and get rid of the lights. Put paper towel on the floor and add at least a couple hides, one with moist paper towel for shedding. If he can't see, he won't be able to get crickets. Worms in a dish will attract him. Read up in the supplementation threads and follow those recommendations. All worms need to be dusted, not sprayed.

Your husbandry needs to be straightened out or he too will die soon. If your vet was not able to help you with the eye issue before, I would suggest you find another vet who is more qualified to treat reptiles.

Agreed with the UHT. get one quick kick starting his insides will help alot.
Nature's Reptile Vita Spray i think is intended for more tropical animals, how oftern do you use it?
Are you using the Reptile Xtra anti-parasite meal all the time? its for plant eating reptiles.
calcium needs to have vit D in it too.

I used lights for his whole life but ill see if i can get a under tank heater. I used vita spray only a few times recommended by the vet, i used the anti-parasite meal only a few times also recommended by the vet.

What are hides? I never heard of that term before o.o.

~Also have a cave for him and a log he uses to get higher to the heat source.

Hides are basically his little apartment that he sleeps in.

I second the comments of others regarding the UTH and getting rid of any loose substrate (I am a big paper towel fan).

I am not sure how helpful your vet has been (it's difficult to say from your posts), but if you don't feel like the vet is addressing the issues with your leos I would certainly seek out another vet for a second opinion (especially if your vet doesn't treat many reptiles).

For parasites, I have used Panacur (Fenbendazole) with some success in other lizards... but I don't recommend that you try this on your own. If you go back to the vet (or to a different vet) ask about Panacur. If she/he doesn't know what you're talking about, that alone is a bad sign. I take it that Panacur is the "go to" medicine for many reptile parasites.

Ok thanks. I'm a little worried about going to the vet. I went to the vet with my girl gecko which costed 150$ and she died 2 weeks later. My dad got really pissed off because with that 150$ i could have bought a new one... i disagree but you know dads.

Well i got all the help he would need. I fed him everyday by mouth, gave him medicine ect, and unfortunately he is close to being in gecko heaven... he will be missed and i hope he finds his sister (Pie) up there too. What a joy I've had with him. He was my guardian at night, and when i woke up in the morning he would be on his log looking at me with a bright smile. I hope he thinks i tried so bad to help him. He was by my side all my childhood and would be loved to be touched by my friends. You will be missed buddy. R.I.P ;<

maybe u are accidently stressing him out with all the handling, i know its hard to give them space when you think something is wrong, if he still has fat reserve in his tail just give him some space along with all the other advice, I really dont think vita spray is at all helpful, also a cheap alternative to buying hides for him just throw in a paper towel roll or two

Thanks for the reply, he has a very skinny tail with probably no fat reserve left. I stopped vita spray and i have a cave for him. He won't make it for sure... oh well i tried hard for my 2 geckos. Unfortunately the eye illnesses is the problem.
