I came home from work today to find my gecko completely out of sorts. She is very, very lethargic, all the 'chubby' is gone out of her tail, and her back left foot is swollen 4 times its size. Does neone know nething that will help me until I get a chance to see the vet?

Yes this was very sudden, it sprung up overnight. The vet is def. getting a visit, I was just wondering if anyone knew what to do for the time being. It's stressful just sitting here not being able to do anything for her :(

I totally understand the stress your going through. Can you give us more details? Your set up, temps, foods you feeding, how often? When did you begin to see changes?

Are you sure this was so sudden and not just unnoticed until now? I've never seen a sick gecko lose all of their fat stores overnight..

Do you know how to retrieve the husbandry questionnaire that is used? I have not been able to figure it out. I was told it was a sticky above but I guess I a bit computer illiterate:(

This was for sure an overnight thing, she is handled on a daily basis (shr got heat stroke once and she lost her tail fat overnight then as well). Had her out again and I managed to get a little life out of her. She is in an 18x18x18 glass terrarium. Eco Carpet for bedding (maybe her foot got caught up in that?) it about 90 degress daytime, 70 night time. She eats approx. 5 crickets a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I have a pic

Metabolic Bone Disease causes swelling. That'd be my guess. I wonder where all the fat went?

When a reptile becomes severely dehydrated which is a huge possibility in this case since he has had heat stroke, they can begin muscle wasting. The swollen leg can make the body appear thinner. This is actually a serious situation that should not wait. A heat stroke can cause metabolic dysfunction and kidney failure which is what leads to the dehydration.

I'm sorry but its just not physically possible to go from plump to pencil tail overnight. Those fluids/fats cannot just evaporate and have to be absorbed and that process, no matter how hurried that metabolism is/was. Simply cannot happen. Their metabolism may be fast, but not that fast.

That is exactly what I was thinking.. didn't want to post it if it WAS possible, but my brain told me it wasn't.

I did mention this:

The swollen leg can make the body appear thinner and not all owners watch them daily:)
