Hi,
I am currently desiging a cage for a species of monitors. But I've heard playsand(if your going to use sand) is reccomended for leopard geckos because it is so fine. I know sand in general is not reccomended, but I mean if you had to choose one, that would be it.
Playsand contains small amounts of silica and reads that it can cause lung problems if inhaled. I was wondering why it would be ok for a leopard gecko then? I was thinking maybe over a period of time the fumes would go away, and it would be safe? And just a little bit of information, all sand is silica. Just some sands have extra silicone.
So why is it ok to use with leopard geckos? (I know its not because its unnatural and can cause impaction) But those things aside, wouldn't the silica harm your geckos?
