I am going to try some silkworms out. Anyone using them please give input...how do leos like them, how do you keep them, pros and cons, etc. Thanks.

Most of my geckos of several species like them. The only drawback is how fast they grow, they can get too big to eat in a short time.

If they get too big let them turn into tasty moths :)

I tried them before. Most of my geckos don't like them, so I haven't been breeding these for a while. However, I'm starting all over again now, because they are such a good food source. I hope my geckos have changed their taste preferences and will like them now.

**Eventhough my geckos didn't like the worms before, they LOVE the moths!!

I'm getting shipment today so I'll try them out on some of my picky eaters to see how they do, and I'll report back.

They are a superfood for reptiles, no doubt. They contain a special enzyme that helps with growth and calcium absorbtion!

The reason I stopped using them is because they're very prone to bacterial infections and you can loose your entire stock in a few days.. They're a pain!

Pros- Silkworms are healthy feeders. They have a more balanced calcium to phosphorus ratio than other feeders. They don't smell. They are quiet.

Cons- Like others mentioned they need to be cleaned up at least every other day. I noticed things tend to get moldy faster when they are older. As a quality of feeder insect I haven't seen any cons.

Some of the geckos really wont take to the silkworms but I would say over 60% have switched over no problem.

My favorite part of the silkworms is getting them to dangle from the silk and lure the geckos out of hiding!! :main_laugh:
