What is the smallest ball python you would get that would be the safest from stress? I just got a ball python on Halloween and it died on Nov. 20. It died from stress and wouldnt eat. I think the stress came from being so young and then moveing to a new house. He was only 14-15 inches and 50 grams
(probably less). I read that this is about the size of a hatchling and this was my first snake so i didnt know. I might get another and want to know what size i should get but i want it still to be young. Thanks:D

50 grams is awfully small. It must have not only just hatched, but been a small hatchling as well. Of our 8 babies this season, the smallest one was about 60 grams.
IMO it doesn't really matter the size or age of the snake when it is rehomed, but whether or not it has and will eat on its own. A responsible breeder will ensure that a hatchling has eaten at least 3-4 meals on its own before selling it. Also when you bring the snake home, you want to place it in its new home and not touch it at all for at least a week. This gives the snake time to adjust and they are usually really hungry by the time that week passes and will typically eat for you.
Next time you buy a hatchling make sure you ask how many times it has shed, eaten, what it is eating and if it will eat on its own. A responsible breeder should not only know this information, but be more than happy to share it with you.

Great advice from Barbel. How do you have your enclosure set up? Ball pythons tend to be shy, they need secure hiding spots and don't appreciate bright lights.
