Slightly melted an original Herpstat... okay to continue using?`

Hey everyone, so tonight I had a bit of a fail... somehow a herpstat ended up on the floor, resting up against a wall heater, and that heater was on. It has that grating that heats up, and that's what was contacting the Herpstat.

It has some pretty deep burns, on the top corner but it doesn't even look like it melted through and I think I caught it pretty quickly, as it wasn't too hot to touch. Anyways let me know what you guys think, I can provide pictures if needed.

PS - The only plus side to this is that it was for a CHE, and the animal has a heat pad on a separate thermostat (hydrofarm) so, not a big deal really, can replace it soon if needed and in the meantime he's fine.

Hmm, tough call. Just having the case melted wouldn't matter, but if there are board components inside on that edge that have been exposed to extreme heat or pressure, they could be more likely to fail in the future.

If this happened to me, I would probably still use the thermostat but use it on something that wouldn't cause fire/death if it failed.

Okay, I am going to switch it over to my Day Gecko enclosure that only uses a 50 watt bulb so if the thermostat fails it wont get too much hotter than the desired temp and wont burn anything including any animals, and probably order a Hydrofarm for the CHE unless I can get a dimmer to hold temps well or if I can find a thermostat laying around that still works perfectly (has happened before lol)
