Slurry = mold

So made some of that slurry according to the recipe provided from the forum. I forgot about it and left it out in room temp for like 4-5 hour in a plastic cup with close lid. It got all moldy and has clump of black stuff on the surface. I was wondering if you keep its in the fridge is that enough to keep it fresh, i mean 3-5 hour isn't that long of a time. My slurry was more liquidity.. cuz i didn't have that many mealworm, is that what cause it?. first time making it so any info would be helpful.
