Well I looked at the site and read the info I found about both and I think that they are the same thing just called something else because the name Phoenix worms is actually the name of the company.

I would just call the company and ask them if it is the same thing as pheonix worms...If not ask what the differences are, this should help you make a decision on whether or not you want to make the purchase.

phoenix worms are black soldier fly larvae... Hermetia illucens.

the worm man site says the soldier grubs are soldier fly larvae as well, so i think they would be very similar if they're not the same thing.
"phoenix worms" is just the company's marketing strategy i think.

In Ken's blog he mentions that Soldier Grub is his product name...

Either way, the names are misleading... they're maggots, and they are considered a pest species. Great breeders, great for vermicomposting, and very nutritious. Mine can climb straight up the walls and cover of the tub I keep them in. The fly is a mimic, it looks like a wasp.

so what you're saying is they're evil trickster demon spawn sent to eat our compost and feed our lizards?

i saw a guy on ebay selling generic soldier fly larvae for cheap, like 200 any size for the price of 100 phoenix worms, but i'm not sure if he has any more available or not.

Hahahaha more or less. The only thing to consider when buying soldier fly larvae from someone who is not breeding them as feeders is that you should make sure you gutload the larvae...
