Some new problems: Definitely skin in one eye, possible sperm plug(s)

My gecko just finished shedding today (With my assitance). You may have noticed my thread below, where I detail that his left eye is cloudy and he has difficulty moving his rear legs.

Anyways, I took him to the vet last week and had him checked out. I was given a liquid calcium suppliment and eye drops to give him on a daily basis. I asked the vet if there might be some skin in his eye, she was unsure.

After helping him get the skin from his current shed off of his head (all came free) when he opened his left eye there was a chunk of skin visible inside, likely from his shed a month ago. I have tried to use a q tip to get it out, that doesn't seem to work.

If you look closely at the upper left corner of his eye you will notice the flap of skin. Some of it is under his eyelid. It is obvious it is bugging him, he keeps blinking. However, he isn't licking his eye at all. Is there any way I can get this out?

Additionally, while removing skin from his vent area I came to notice this:

I was able to get it to come out a bit after giving him a 30 minute soak, but it seems to be stuck in there somewhere as it wouldn't come off. It is actually a bit bigger than it looks, a decent amount of it is under his skin flap. When the vet looked at it she thought it was feces, but I am a bit concerned seeing as it isn't coming out easily. What do you suggest?

I would prefer to take care of him myself if possible, the last vet visit totaled in at $125.

eyes are a very delicate area to be playing with. have you tried rinsing it out with sterile water?

the thing in his vent could possibly be a sperm plug. see it if come out by its self in a few days. try soaking him again to help

I would keep soaking him in 95 degree water for 10-15 minutes once or twice a day. Also make sure you have him on a quality vitamin supplement in addition to the Calcium. I wouldn't try to pull or use q-tips to get stuck shed (or whatever it is) out of such sensitive areas. Continue to soak him and he should be able to get them off by himself eventually.

How are you heating his enclosure? What are you using for a moist hide?

Filling out and providing as much of the information as possible asked for in the following thread: http://geckoforums.net/f130-health-medications/70912.htm may help others give you the best advice possible.

He got a vitamin injection at the vet, so that is okay for now.... how can I suppliment him in the future?

Is it safe to leave the skin in his eye till he gets it out? How likely is it that he will? Also, the skin isn't stuck to anything, it is just too large of a chunk to come out easily. (covered a good portion of his eye when more was visible) I have tried squirting saline solution in his eye, it doesn't seem to help much and he definately doesn't enjoy it. The q tip was limited to trying to get the skin out when I could see most of it. In the picture like 80% of it is under his upper eyelid.

He is getting heat from a 60 watt light as well as a under tank heating pad. He is in a 30 gallon tank, and there is a good temperature gradient.

He doesn't have a moist hide yet, I am in the process of fixing up his tank based on the recommendations I am seeing here though.

Currently he has warm and cool hides, and 1 inch of sand with a layer of paper towel over it as bedding. I have reptile carpet to put in, I just need to figure out what to do with the sand first.

I use Reptivite with D3 and it works well, I would give the eye a couple more days then I would go to the vet again if it won't come out by itself.. I use a cleaned out butter container as a moist hide and I find my gecko in there every so often when she's about to shead, I used to have sand too for about a week and I sucked it out with a vacume cleaner and put repti carpet. I hope everything turns out ok!! :main_yes:
