Some questions before I get my gecko

I'm planning to get a leopard gecko next month in a reptile expo in Hong Kong, and I have a few questions.

-Is it compulsory that I get a UTH? Because I live in Hong Kong and the weather is really hot already.

-Can I feed insects and bugs from my house to my gecko when it's an adult? Such as small moths and big ant bug things (but small enough for geckos)

-Do all morphs have relatively similar personalities?

-Can I bring geckos out to parks and beaches?

Thanks :)

UTH. Geckos like a "hot spot" in enclosure 90-95deg at all times. I doubt your home is that warm all the time. Maybe it is?

Insects from home are very risky. Some may harbor internal parasites. Some may have chemical defense system which may irritate or potentially kill your gecko. I wouldn't recommend this. Unless you have MANY suitable moths etc, you'd be purchasing a staple diet anyhow.

Morphs personalities. Yes they do. We have an Enigma male though that is Very calm compared to others.

Geckos are nocturnal/crepuscular so unless you are going to the beach at night, I don't think they'd enjoy this very much. There would also be the chance of the lizard getting too hot at the beach? Although I'd hate to be the one to deny such a critter of a very glamorous lifestyle full of beautiful bikini clad women requiring hand/feet/tail? to apply sunscreen, I'm running the risk of drawing M_Surinamensis's ire by advocating this activity. I'd be tempted as well! Get him/her a nice little walk along habitat and take him places! LOL
Seriously though, it may really stress the animal to be transported around like that. That wouldn't be good.

Hmmm envisioning *doggles for geckos.

HJ, anyone stirring in the graphics department? We need some mock ups ASAP! "Pretty Princess Gecko Mobile Home" and some "herp shades" Sunglasses. Aviator and thick black frames styles please.

Ooh thanks for replying :)
Yeah I just remembered they're nocturnal, and my beach is a deserted one, so there will be no beautiful bikini clad women casually walking around hahaha

Also, since I'll be getting it at the expo, is there anything I should know? Like if I'll get ripped, because I heard they lower the price after a day or have low prices on the last day (though I'll be there on the opening day to get first dibs)

Look for the same thing in an animal and breeder as you would any other time. Sometimes prices will be lower on a second day, but then again what you really want may also be gone that second day. It is up to you to weigh the cost vs value of the animal you choose.

Thanks for the visual, and the laugh. It does bring up a point though for people to remember. Whatever is on your hands can probably get absorbed by your gecko through the skin.
