Hi, i have a gecko which is almost 2 years old.It was kept on wood chips.I changed its substrate to paper towels because she always ate the wood chips. Now she does not want to eat. When i put the mealworm in front of her, she just closes her eyes and turns away.Is there anything wrong with her?Is she sick? Pls reply!! :main_no: :main_no: :main_huh: :main_huh:

She could be adjusting to the new surroundings. But if she was eating the wood chips, there is a chance that she could have gotten impacted. Feel her belly, do any areas feel hardened? Look at her belly, does anything look odd? You may need to take her to a herp. vet

i know about impaction.I felt her belly before making this thread. There are no hard spots. Now she closes her eyes and turns away even when I put my finger in front of her...:main_no: so, if shes not impacted, then nothing is wrong?Cause she is fat and healthy.

I would venture to guess that she is full of wood chips. Get her to a herp vet if you can. If she has ingested wood chips she could be hungry but doesn't have gut space for food. How is her tail? Is it thinning out? Their tail is their main fat reserve, and is a good indicator as to how well they're eating. Keep in mind their age is also a factor in tail thickness. More mature geckos should have very robust tails, but juveniles take a while to fill out. Good luck and best wishes.

If she is fat and healthy than fallen_angel is probably right in saying that she just needs some time to adjust to her new environment. If you know for a fact that she has eaten wood chips a herp vet would still be a good idea. I don't think she can pass the wood chips, and this will most definitely cause problems for her at some point.

Not necessarily, not eating can be several different things and is usually some kind of indicator that there may be a problem. Can you post some pics of her? What are her temps like? What else changed in her cage besides the substrate? What was she eating before the change and how often?

What kind of heating do you use? Is there a warm side and cooler side? You will need to try to get the temps on the warm end up to 90 degrees if you can. The cooler end can be anywhere from 70-80 degrees. Sometimes geckos won't eat simply because the temps. aren't warm enough.

Is there a calcium dish in the enclosure? It could have chowed down on calcium so much that the poop is white. That has happened to me before and I couldn't really think of any other explanation.
