Last year we hatched some snows with a very unique speckled pattern. Here are some of the ones from last year.

For some reason, all the snows I hatched out of snow x patt albino were speckled like this. The speckles are concentrated on the tubercules.

Pretty much all the tubercules are spots, and no other spots. The speckling appears to be genetic at some level but at this point I'm not sure how the gene(s) are inherited.

That's awesome Steve! I've noticed a lot of leos het for Patternless and Blizzard are highly spotted. What's up with that?

WoW!! thats really cool. It really makes me wonder if those speckles come from the blizzards. Alot of the blizzard hets that I hatched in the past showed alot of that same speckled pattern. Almost like a phenotype het if that makes any sense.
Very neat Steve!!

I believe it's genetic. Remeber that the original pair that pruduced the Blizzard were highly spotted. Maybe it got mixed up back when they were crossed with Patternless.

You are right, many het blizzards can be speckled. It is the "het blizzard marker". However, not all het blizzards show it. Maybe it is just a dominant trait that carried on down through the generations from the original blizzards. I'll try to figure that out next year with this speckled super snow male.

Here is a picture of my original snow male. He is het blizzard, so half of all the snows I produced last year were het blizzard. This guy couldn't be considered speckled, but he produced a good number of speckled snows last year.

I have produced snow blizzards from my snows het Bell albino, but haven't produced blizzards from my snow het PA groups (and the snows het PA are the most speckled). The snows het PA were the ones that produced the speckled super snow and this snow

Hmmmm, looking at the speckled snows pictured above and the speckled super snow, maybe it is a codominant trait. The snows I posted would be the heterozygous form (some speckling, but not all over) and the speckled super snow shows the super form of the speckled gene. Who knows, time will tell!

Boy, that read as gobbly-gook the first time around....but I think I got it! LOL Interesting theory...hopefully it'll pan out.
