We recently lost our female TAG sudden;y. I had thought it was probably do to issues she was having with egg laying. While i was cleaning the tank this morning that she had been in ( a 55 gal with 2 other females) I saw 5 or 6 tiny little spiders. Obviously there had to be a mommy. We immediatly cleaned out the tank and found a bunch of them. if one of these had bit her could it possibly have been the cause of her death? Right before she passed away she made this sqeal noise then threw up all clear liquid. I immediatly started trying to get ahold of the vet. I got there answer service and was told that someone would get back to me "shortly". She passed away before they could get back with me. I'm not sure what kind the spiders are but I have several in a jar and will take them to a friend of mine that is a biology teacher to see if he will know or find out for me. We are also cleaning the tank out. We then will go about figuring out how to get our house sprayed and get all of the reptiles and good bugs out for several days.:main_no:

Ruby-
I am so sorry to hear about your loss

I am sure that you probably already know this-but you need to be very careful with whatever is used to spray for insects when keeping reptiles and if you also have lots of feeder insects around

Also I believe that there is a member here that lost a bunch of her beloved Chinchillas due to the use of an insecticide that said it was safe to use around pets

I have to regularly clear spider nests from the undersides of my pegboard lids on my aquariums

The eggs sacs are very stubborn to get off and I often have to result to burning them with a lighter-while the wooden cover is off the tank

I hate to do something like that-I hate to kill anything-but I would be over run with spiders if I didn't

It would be better to find out if the spiders are harmful and then try alternatives to spraying if you can

Maybe I'm just extremely paranoid about spraying anything at all from my years of fish keeping

just my 2 cents

I hear you there! I'm still afraid to use any type of spray, even air fresheners, in my room.

We had a problem with wolf spiders in the basement where I used to keep my geckos. Killing nests and the adult spiders is really the best way of controlling them without sprays.
