Anyone using the Herpstat thermostat? How do you like it for stable temps and can you plug in one UTH or two into one unit? Thanks.

I have two of them. One for my ball pythons and one for my leopard gecko's and I love them. There are enough outlets on the herpstat to plug in 3 cords. An obvious statement is you can't go over the maximum ammount of watts for the herpstat. And don't use different size uth's for one herptstat.

I have the Herpstat ND in my 20 gallon tank for my Leos, love it, but I've never tried to use it with more than one unit before although I would have the option of doing so, my only issue is I don't know how you'd be able to monitor the temps with there only being one probe. You'd have to make sure that all units you're heating would have identical encosures and monitor with a laser thermometer in the non probe tanks

We have 3 of them. One for each rack and one for the incubator. For the racks we put the probe in one tub in the center. We have measured the temps in other tubs throughout, and found the temps to be stable and consistent.

Do you place the probe in the middle of the rack or at one end? On the heat tape or in a cage?

You put it on the heat tape, to get the exact temperature of the heat tape itself. You then use either a temp gun or another probe to measure the heat INSIDE the tub, and adjust the temperature you set the Herpstat to what you want the inside of the tub to be.

I use mine inside my tank, I use tile floors in the tank, I'd think that using it on the tape itself won't give the inside of the tank very stable temps (then again I use a UTH and I'm not on a rack)

Rhino Raxx also recommends putting the stat probe on the heat tape itself and adjust accordingly to get the right temp in your boxes.....they put the probe on the bottom shelf though...middle seems to make more sense.
I'll try both to see what gives the most consistent temps throughout the rack.
