Starving leopard gecko.

Hello,

Since I got myself a female leopard gecko, my male is getting more and more skinny (because the female is much quicker to get all the crickets, worms and stuff) and now I'm afraid that he will die. I already put the female apart so the male could eat but he is to weak to get the food and worms doesn't get his attention (only crickets). I know that it is bad but I got sand because I can't order carpet online and it isn't in my local store. And if I use paper towels then the crickets will hide them self under it and my gecko's won't find them. The female is soooooo active and if she sees food she gets is within a second! It is incredible how she gets them so fast. I usually put like 10 crickets in my terrarium each 2 days so I thought that the male could get atleast 3-4 crickets but no. That's why he got so skinny. It was all my fould that he got so skinny, I should have watched over him much better and better... Can you guys please help me to get him healthy again. I just got crickets, buffalo worms and wax worms from the local store. I also got leopard gecko vitamins left ofcourse. Please give me tips ASAP so he can maybe survive! I know he is strong! HE STILL DRINKS SO PLEASE GIVE ME A TIP TO MAKE A MIX OF FOOD THAT HE WILL GET INSIDE BY DRINKING IT. Here is a picture of him Oh and he can't even open his eyes clearly!

First, get him to a vet ASAP, although there probably isnt much they can do for him at this point. I have never had a gecko THAT skinny bounce back in the six years that I have been keeping and rescuing them.
Second, You need to get him off of the sand, and the female too. Use paper towel and weigh down the sides with sterilized yard rocks or other items. Crickets make sand even deadlier due to the fact that they will swallow the sand when they strike the cricket. I'm afraid that your boy probably wont make it, especially if he is lethargic and not opening his eyes.

I've got every requirement. The local reptile store near my house told me everything I had to buy to setup my cage for my gecko's. I bought my male gecko on 30 Oktober and he was tiny by then. Here is a picture of when I bought him:

. I have got one hide, warm and cool side, water, I've got white warm lamps. He didn't had previous health problems. He was always a strong boy. When I bought a second gecko he was tiny so we couldn't see if it was a boy or not. They didn't fight until one day and my male gecko was always biting him so i immidiatly put the other gecko out of the cage and brought him to the reptile shop and got a female gecko. The female gecko is not bullying him (i think so). The female gecko layed 3 eggs already but my male gecko doesn't hide much. He is just laying on the sand.

I just fed him 2 waxworms and he doesn't want to eat more. I tried to fed him crickets and mealworms but he has enough I think. If he eats 2 waxworms a day. Will he have a chance to get better?

I'm not an expert, but from what I've heard waxworms should be used to gain weight because it will mostly be fat.

At this point, anything you can get him to eat is good. The gecko needs to get to a vet asap. I'm not sure if he's past the point of saving or not, but it's worth the visit. Could be parasites, could be crypto. Looking at the pics, crypto was my first thought. Keep him away from all other geckos. Good luck.

I'm with everyone about getting him to the vet. I'll talk about your setup since everyone has said what I would have food wise. I would separate the two of them while you're trying to rehabilitate the guy. I dont think your reptile shop told you ALL you need (based on the info you've given so far). Get another hide in there for them, they not only need vitamins but calcium as well, sand is certainly not appropriate for him. I'd suck it up and use paper, first he needs to be well hydrated to pass ingested sand and that really doesn't look the case. Second crickets may hide under it but its better to keep him alive and simply remove uneaten cricket. Third if you really want sand that bad, feed them in a separate sand free tank/place. They do no even need heat lamps so the ones you have are currently moot. You NEED to get an UTH for them, they need belly heat not heat from a lamp.

My guess would be your tank is too hot. Paired with a cage mate and bright white lights he's probably super stressed. He may have some parasites to boot. He's on death's door like others have said. You need to change some things up ASAP if you are going to have any hope of helping him. Please fill out the info in the form linked above and people can give better advice.
