State of the hobby

Greetings friends,

As some of you may know I have been away for a few years getting my degree. I still have my leos who are doing very well. I have a acid stripe group from Travis Kuhse from Enigmatic Reptiles. I haven't been keeping up with many happenings but I see some very big names have gotten out of leopards. Why is that? Are we no longer seeking new morphs? I've never been into the leos for money so I realize that a few years ago when the market was saturated some switched to snakes and other critters. I'd just like to know what big names are still around? What new morphs are being worked on?

Hey Jeff! Welcome back to leos! There have been a lot of big names disappearing but there is still a lot of interest in leopard geckos. The newest morph is currently the Lemon Frost and I believe Geckos Etc is releasing a few to the public for the first time this year. Other than that there really aren't and other true legitimate genes that have popped out anywhere but I've seen a whole lot of nice work refining and advancing traits done by quite a few dedicated folks. It's always fun to hunt around FB and Gecko Forums and see what's popping out for lots of people I hope to see you around here more often!

It is nice to have new interest in the leos. I am in my last semesters of getting a Fisheries Conservation degree. I have spent the past year working with Dr. Eric Hallerman, one of the leading fisheries geneticists at Virginia Tech restore a native species of walleye to the New River (SW Virginia). We have had many conversations about how different loci affect genes and he knows of my passion for herps. I am looking to use that knowledge to create some amazing leos in the coming years. I am also considering graduate school to get a herpetology degree but I'm still unsure about that!

Well here in Jersey the market got flooded for a while. And so many people just breading not even knowing genetically geckos for nothing. It was getting hard to break even in the business. It's come back a little here. But lots of people got out.
