Staying out during the day. Normal?

My gecko, Aero, for the past two months, has been sleeping out in the open during the day. He's not running around or anything, but he just seems to like to sleep on the hot side on a piece of slate I have out for him. He sleeps there for most of the night too. My temps are 89-92 degrees on the hot side, but I can only get the cold side to about 70 degrees. I have provided a cool hide, a humid hide (on the warm side), and a warm hide for him. I do have a regular incandescent light on for him during the day, for exactly 12 hours a day.

My questions:

- Is this just normal gecko behavior?
- Could my light be too dim, and I need to turn it up?
- And is it too cold (the air and cold side temp)?

Thanks! ~Nat

Your temps sound fine and your leo is acting normal.

Almost all of my leos have done the same thing sometimes, and a few do it all the time.
They just sprawl out on the floor, on top of stuff, whatever.
They always have their favorite spot.

Yup its fine. Half of the time my gecko is sleeping on top of the hide during the day...And I just think, why did I buy the hide?

mine does the same thing! I sit there with my fingers crossed "Go in PLEASE" but no she decides to hide in the plants above it OR balance herself on her tail.

Even though geckos are nocturnal many of them get used to coming out during the day and just chill out and walk around.

All it means is that your little guy feels in his environment. It's a good thing!

My geckos are so comfortable. They prefer to chill outside of their hides, eyes closed, bellies on the floor, basking like little lazy lions. :main_laugh:

Yeah, for the first month or so he'd hide all the time, but then he started coming out more and more during the day. Now he's usually out when I see him, unless he's about to shed. Then he's in his humid hide. :)
