I'll have a table at the other show, too. I've never been to it though. Sad to hear it is disappointing. The Pittsburgh shows are never to the level of places like the Cleveland show or the Columbus ones because PA has a much more involved process and restrictive species list.
I think that's probably the worst part about the Steel City show. They always have that awesome chams guy, and lots of different snakes, but their geckos are mostly limited to the leachie/crestie lady and a few leo tables.
I think most places are getting like that. Boas rule, at least until the government starts getting involved. But at least the Pa show allows hots (venomous species). That always attracts people... even if its the wrong kind sometimes.
But in Cleveand, there is one of the vendors I don't trust. He tried to sell my friend a dead tarantula... and his stock is always too varied and mostly WC. And not well cared for either. I hate to talk bad about someone, but it gives the trade a bad name.
That's awful! How does someone try and sell a DEAD animal?!
I don't feel bad about pointing out the bad vendors in the trade. I think those people are the ones that give the trade a bad name, not the fact that people identify bad interactions. I mean as long as they tried to resolve their problems with the vendor before going and yelling about it, that's fine. I sometimes just peruse faunaclassified's boi section and am astounded at what some people do! Lots of taking money and never sending animals - stuff like that. Reptiles are not cheap, and if we have scammers like that in the trade they need to be outed, IMO.
The Los Anageles area reptile shows have a great diversity of animals. There's always a few breeders of each type of animal - more for popular ones like balls, boas, chams - but then also a couple bigger companies that have lots of different stuff.
Yeah, we don't have anything like that here, but our shows are every month. Its a good place to just go pick up things like crickets and not have to worry about shipping them in
